Holiday Home Details | 2020
Decorating for the holidays is a double-edged sword. It can be so fun to freshen up your space, but it can also add stress and pressure. My approach is two fold. First, only add decor if I’m also removing something else. I utilize holiday decorating to change up pieces that I use in the spring and summer, and swap out a few things that are better suited to fall and winter. I stick to palettes that can transition into from November through to January and February. Meaning, once the tree and discretely “Christmas” items are long gone, I have a few warmer, cozier decor pieces that I love to use all winter, until I’m ready for a big spring clean and a fresher, warm weather look.
Second, with two tiny humans that inhabit our home, and living in a rental, I shoot to keep things kid friendly and minimal. Granted, I have a few pieces that are fragile and more precious, so those live out of reach, and I say this after a broken snow globe incident, whoops! Ultimately, I believe in buying items you’ll love for many years, so for now my more long term pieces come in the form of a few nicer dishes, glasses, and mugs that my kiddos won’t be interacting with much yet, and I can still enjoy and will use for hosting when it’s safe to do so again.
